Delosperma congesta – Compact Yellow Ice Plant

Out of stock

Hardy ice plants (Delosperma sp.) are low-growing succulents native to the alpine regions of southern Africa. While sporting attractive groundcover foliage, ice plants are best known for their multitude of aster-like blooms.

Delosperma congesta shows off bright yellow daisy-like blooms spring through fall, similar to Delosperma nubigenum (alpine yellow ice plant). The foliage of these two ice plants are quite different, however. Compact yellow ice plant is slower growing, forming a dense emerald mat of angular succulent leaves in a fairly small clump. In Latin, the species name literally means “congested”.

Ice plants work great in containers and planters, either by themselves or mixed with other plants. They add excellent low-growing color and texture planted in a rock garden, draping down a retaining wall, or planted anywhere a cold and drought tolerant ground cover or trailing plant is needed. They can also be used as permanent additions to hanging baskets.

This plant is sold in a square 2-inch pot.
